In the beginning, after being influenced from the shadows that she saw in the grasses of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out in developing a process that did not depict the object in a 2D image. Rather the subject is transformed into a re-creation of itself, where the surface transforms into the medium for it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly when the subjects are live or perishable objects like people or fruits. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's art is her photographs. Trompe-l'oeil art is created using the two processes of photography and painting. The result is two-dimensional flattened image. Meade frequently incorporates her painted figures into the 3-dimensional world around them. They are able to interact with this self-created universe. This way, the line between painting and photography can be dissolved.
